Magic Threads - EP Cover
Magic Threads is the debut EP by musician Melissa Tungare, released on March 15, 2024. I was in charge of creating the EP cover illustration.

How it’s made
Step 1: Meeting & Notes. I met with the musician, took down notes of their ideas for the album cover, and picked some keywords from the song lyrics for inspiration.
Step 2: Bad Doodles. I doodled some initial ideas based on the notes. This is usually the "ugly" step where I get the not-so-good ideas out of my head before the actual good ideas flow out.
Step 3: Idea Sketches. The good ideas finally came out! I made detailed sketches of three ideas and showed them to the musician.
Step 4: Composition. Time to dive into the approved idea and make more compositional variations!

Step 5: Correction & Detailing. I made some anatomy corrections based on the approved compositional variation and added details to the background forest.
Step 6: Style Tests. I tested out two render styles: an oil painting style and a flat cartoon style. I also put the work-in-progress logo on the art to gauge the final effect.
Step 7: Final Illustration! I rendered another pass of the approved oil painting style. My work as an illustrator is done here.
Step 8: Add Logo. The graphic designer added the finished logo onto the illustration. This is the EP cover that's shown on streaming platforms. Thank you for taking this journey with me!
